President Mahama Commissions LPG Vessel MT Asharami Ghana in Korea
BOSTenergies participated in the commissioning of the LPG vessel MT Asharami Ghana in Ulsan, Republic of Korea, during President Mahama’s working visit. The vessel, built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for Sahara Energy Resources, will boost Ghana’s LPG supply chain and energy security.
At the Government Accountability Series held on July 16, 2025, Energy Minister John Jinapor praised BOST’s renewed efficiency and strategic vision under the leadership of Afetsi Awoonor. Highlighting the company’s role in regional fuel expansion and national energy reforms, Jinapor affirmed Ghana’s path toward energy security, increased petroleum reserves, and transparent governance.
BOST MD Afetsi Awoonor commended Kalibi Volleyball Club for securing bronze at the 2025 CAVB Zone 3 Championship, urging them to aim higher ahead of Ghana’s hosting in 2026. The team, supported by BOST, was celebrated at a medal presentation ceremony in Accra.
Mr Afetsi Awoonor, Managing Director of BOST, has been honoured with the Millennium Excellence Award for Leadership at Manhyia Palace. The award, presented under the patronage of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, recognises his influence in Ghana’s energy sector, entrepreneurial success, and youth-focused philanthropy through the Afetsi Awoonor Foundation. The accolade highlights his enduring impact on national development and leadership across Africa.
BOST has renewed its strategic partnership with Burkina Faso’s SONABHY to strengthen cross-border petroleum trade and foster regional energy security. The move follows restored diplomatic ties and aims to optimise product flow between the two countries, leveraging key infrastructure like the Bolgatanga Depot and Blue Ocean Terminal. A joint technical team will explore efficiency opportunities, while expanded electricity exports are also under consideration to address Burkina Faso’s energy needs.
Ghana’s Chief Imam, Alhaji Dr Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Shaributu, visited BOST to congratulate Mr Afetsi Awoonor on becoming its youngest-ever Managing Director. Their long-standing family ties and shared commitment to public service marked the occasion, as the Chief Imam offered prayers and support for Mr Awoonor’s new leadership chapter.
Mr Afetsi Awoonor has been appointed Managing Director of BOST, succeeding Dr Edwin Provencal after five years of service. His appointment, effective January 20, 2025, was formalised at a handover ceremony in Accra, marking a return to the company where he once served as Manager of Government Relations.
